You’ve got music you want the public to hear?:
If you are an unsigned Hip Hop artist and believe you’ve got music you think the public should hear, then read on.
The Mission:
To release compilation albums on a regular basis to bring awareness to the public of the talent we have on our shores, and from anywhere else good Hip Hop is being made.
We know there are thousands of mcs, producers, djs etc, and have found that a lot of them don’t have the cash (or enough knowledge) to get their material out there. What 691 INFLUENTIAL RECORDS together with MUSICAL PROPAGANDA PROMOTIONS wishes to do is release compilation albums possibly 3 or 4 times a year (depending on how the first couple do), and on each album we want to showcase new and creative talent.
Details:
We want to keep the albums as professional as possible and would rather fill them with 30 minutes of quality than 80 mins of average material that does nobody any favours. This is NOT a mixtape and there will be a lot of competition so you need to make the standard of your entry as high as possible as there will only be 12-15 artists selected to appear on each compilation. If you don’t make it to one album, there’s always the next one to apply for.
The judging on what goes on these albums will be pretty strict and there will be no favouritism, so please do not expect any just because you know somebody (or a friend of someone) at 691 or MP, as you won’t get any!
We will be looking for between 12- 15 tracks on each release. The choice of material you wish to send in is totally down to you, THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION but a means to build awareness of talent worldwide, eventually. Only one track by each group or artist will be accepted for each project, but artists that appear on volume 1 can also appear on volume 2 etc depending on if their tracks make it to that stage or not.
What music we are looking for:
Please do not get this confused!! WE ARE LOOKING FOR STRAIGHT UP HIP HOP!!
We do not understand or know any other market, including rock, pop, soul, urban, grime, garage, drum & bass, etc, so please do not waste your time or ours by sending us material that is not HIP HOP, as it will automatically be bypassed and ignored.
How to submit a track:
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in feel free to send us the track you would like featured on the compilation via email (address given below), and if chosen we will be in touch with you.
Please note that to begin with, we only need an email containing just the bare essentials. This is not an enquiry post. We are expecting high volumes of music to be sent in, so we will NOT be able to respond to questions – please help us keep the process simple.
At the first stage all you need to do is this:
- SEND US AN MP3 OF YOUR TRACK VIA EMAIL (please make sure file sizes are not more than 6 meg, otherwise you risk your email never reaching us!)
- LEAVE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION, INCLUDING PHONE NUMBER
- WAIT TO HEAR IF YOUR TRACK HAS BEEN CHOSEN
Please make sure that the tracks you send are fully mastered to a high level as demo quality tracks or bad mixes will not be accepted. If you have been contacted to be told that your track has been chosen, we will need you to then send us a hard copy of the track with instrumentals and accapellas to a postal address. The original track you send in via email WILL NOT be used for the final cut, so you need to be ready to send the master in – any unreasonable delay in this part of the process will result in someone else having to take your place.
Please send your mp3 submissions to:
691@blade691.com (please make sure file sizes are not more than 6 meg, otherwise you risk your emailing never reaching us!)
Once all the tracks are submitted, someone will be in touch with the chosen artists with all the details of how to proceed with this. If your track is accepted for the project, we will need to be able to get in touch with the lead spokesperson for the group in order to make sure all the details are crystal clear and there is no confusion about what goes on throughout the whole process.
Also, please note that if at any stage we sense that any act is going to delay the process for everyone else involved, we will just simply move on to the next person in the queue, no questions asked. This needs to be a proactive project in order for everyone involved to get the most out of it, so please help us to help you by not complicating things.
Samples:
What you record is totally down to you, but you will need to sign a contract before your track is put on the album so everything is legal and above board. 691 INFLUENTIAL and MUSICAL PROPAGANDA will not take responsibility for any sample issues and every act who appears on the compilation will need to sign contracts taking full responsibility if anything of this nature should arise.
Why we are doing this:
We have no intention of running a full scale label. This idea came about because we have met so many artists who have given us cd’s to listen to and have been impressed by a good percentage of what we heard.
After speaking to artists, we found that most (or all) were struggling to get their material out. So we decided to do our bit to help, by giving artists a platform and a publicity tool to get their music heard.
Any profits made from this will be used to fund the next compilation, so please look at the bigger picture and see how this will benefit you (and the scene) in the long run if it works out. We will fund the compilation at no cost to the artist, but we will of course expect to make our manufacturing, distribution, and promotional costs back otherwise there will be no way of funding the next release. We will use any profits to help manufacture the following volumes which will hopefully gain more publicity each time and turn this into something that will be of benefit to Hip Hop artists everywhere.
What we will do:
-
We will pay all manufacturing costs.
-
We will supply each of the groups with a certain amount of cds which they will be allowed to sell, and a reasonable percentage of the money made from the sales will be theirs to keep. We just ask for you to be honest with this as any unprofessional behaviour will only jeopardise future projects which will affect the artists that wish to follow on to future volumes. We want to provide this opportunity even though our experience in the past is we have very rarely seen any artists earn any money from appearances on compilation albums. We want to give you a chance to make your own money out of the project, the more you sell, the more you make. We will break this all down in the final contract between ourselves and the acts accepted for the compilation before release and soon as we have confirmed who will be included.
-
We will give you freedom to do with the tracks belonging to you whatever you wish and all we ask for is 6 months exclusivity from date of release. You will own all the rights and therefore have full control over what you wish to do with the track soon as the exclusivity runs out.
-
No artist will actually be signed by us except for their appearance on the compilation, so you are a free spirit and can go about your business with no obligation to us except to help us sell the product and bring it to everyone’s attention.
-
We will do our best to publicise the artists on each compilation. Part of this will be by sending the compilations to records labels who might want to sign you or promoters who might want to provide you with somewhere for you to do a live performance.
691 INFLUENTIAL or MUSICAL PROPAGANDA will let any artist know if anyone should contact us wanting to know more about you.
WE ARE RELYING ON PEOPLE'S HONESTY TO MAKE THIS AN ONGOING THING, WITH RELEASES PLANNED EVERY FEW MONTHS. IF AT ANY POINT WE FEEL THAT THOSE WHO TAKE ON THE CDS TO SELL ARE NOT BEING HONEST ABOUT WHAT THEY SELL, ETC, THEN WE WILL SIMPLY STOP THE PROJECT DEAD IN IT'S TRACKS AND THAT WILL BE THE END OF THAT, WITH NO FURTHER VOLUMES RELEASED.
